Neil and I attended a friends birthday party with a wine theme. I could barely contain my excitement about tasting wines from all over the world! The theme for the party was wine from the Southern Hemisphere. It was suggested that everyone bring wine from South America, South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand.
We continued on our search for new wineries by going to Kenwood, CA over the weekend. Driving down route 121 was beautiful! This country road had many vineyards, sparkling with glitter strips to keep the birds away. We even saw a sign that said “Welcome to Real wine country.”
This week we decided to go out for Wine and Cheese Friday. Eno (http://www.enowinerooms.com/) is just a few blocks away from our apartment and serves multiple wine flights, cheese flights, charcuterie and assorted chocolates. We had stopped here another time for a drink but couldn’t wait to try one of their recommended wine and cheese pairings.
Neil and I took our first trip to Napa Valley on Tuesday, 8/27. We went with my brother and his girlfriend who were in town visiting. We decided to go to 2 wineries that would be pretty different but close to each other.
For this weeks wine and cheese, we decided to go out on the town! I had passed Golden Gate Grill a few times and noticed their sign for wine flights so we decided to give it a try! (http://sfgoldengategrill.com/) We apologize in advance for the lack of cheese in this entry 😉
It’s your lucky day, a bonus post from Maria & Neil.
We decided to go to The Wine Club (http://www.thewineclub.com/) for some wine tasting during our “Wine and Cheese” time this week. There was a little cheese there as a snack but we will just be discussing the wines for this entry. The Wine Club offers different tasting themes every Friday and Saturday; this week Spanish wines were being featured.
On Saturday night we arrived at Wine Riot with a plan of attack. There were around 40 different wineries represented from all over the world. We decided to visit the South African wines table first and then make our way through Europe, and finish out with the USA. This was a bit ambitious considering there were classes, a photo booth, temporary tattoos and don’t forget about our grilled cheese we had been dreaming about.
Saturday afternoon I headed over to the “Uncorked” event (https://ghirardellisquareuncorked.eventbrite.com/) to learn more California wines, rub some elbows and taste some local wine.
Friday night at The Bluxome Street Winery, Saturday at “Uncorked”, and Sunday night at The Pour House.
