After learning last week that Gouda cheese is named after the town of Gouda where it was originally traded, we decided to continue down the same path and find out what other cheeses are named after the places where they originated.

A Trip to a Cheese Cave, Arona, Piedmont, Italy

We met Davide, our gracious cheese host, at the Cheese Plus Event we attended back in January,. He told us to come see the cave if we were ever in the area. We decided to make this happen since we would be traveling through Northern Italy during our recent trip to Europe.

Zinfandel and Gorgonzola

This pairing is one of the final ones from the list we found in The Fun Book for Couples.(http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/0740738372) The last time we paired a wine with Gorgonzola cheese we could only find “crumbles” so we were excited to find a chunk of it this time.
