Canned Wines in St Croix
We’re always on the search to try new wines so when I find new ones, especially those in a can, I see it as a challenge. These tasting notes come to you from St. Croix. And all of them were purchased at a convenience store but that’s ok with me.
Have you tried any of these wines? Since we’re in a tropical setting, I figured some canned fruity wines would be a good option for us. They’re easy to bring to the beach, or just for a refreshing sip on a hot evening. This collection includes 4 fizzy wines/spritzers so they’ll be perfect as an alternative to a heavy red wine during this time of year.
This isn’t our first “wine in a can” entry, we’ve tried a few before, https://wineandcheesefriday.com/wine-in-a-can/. We know it is hard to get the full tasting notes straight out of the can, but we’ll do our best.
flip flop wines fizzy white sangria We brought our first wine to the beach with us. It smelled tropical and tasted like pineapple as well as being a little tart and kind of like club soda. Neil noticed peaches and he liked the fizzy texture.
Barefoot Spritzer Rosé, Pride Edition We liked the idea of bringing the can to the beach so we drank this can at home and dreamt of the beach! Neil thought this wine was fruity and light and I simply called it berry Koolaid.
Barefoot Spritzer Rosé As I’m writing this up, I’m realizing that this can and the can above are called the same thing but we did notice a difference in flavor. I picked up tart and sweet strawberry aromas with a nice flavor. It was a little juicy and seemed like something that would be great for a warm afternoon! Neil found it to be drier than the rose above and he liked it better. This was one of my favorites of the collection!
Barefoot Spritzer Red Sangria During our time in Costa Rica, I had found a bottled sangria, Estiu, so that’s what I’ll be thinking of as I taste this one. This one does have dark fruit, some spice and orange finish so it’s close to my Estiu but then the orange finish shifted to make me think of chewable vitamin C. Neil called it a nice fruity sangria with a hint of citrus.
I’d say that the second Barefoot Spritzer Rosé would be my favorite, if I were looking for something close to wine. If I just wanted something refreshing on a hot day, I would enjoy the flip flop wines fizzy white sangria. It didn’t really seem like wine but it would be pretty comparable to a hard seltzer.
This was a fun chance to compare more wines in a can, and without even trying, we did the sparkling/spritzer version, this time around!
I was delighted to see Barefoot Rose Spritzer again in the store so I picked up a package of 4. They were perfect for our wine picnic and went so well with our fresh fruit. Give it a try!
