Happy Chardonnay Day

Happy Chardonnay Day 1

In order to celebrate Chardonnay Day today, I’ve looked through past WineAndCheeseFriday entries to find those featuring Chardonnay. All of you Chardonnay Lovers out there will be excited to see that we’ve written many entries featuring this grape. We even went as far as creating “Chardon-May” last year and had a month long celebration of this popular white wine.

After reading through, I’m proud to say that we have identified the more commonly found flavors and aromas of apple, citrus, butter, toast and some minerality in these wines. Once we started to get a little more into Chardonnay, we also picked up banana, mango, vanilla, cantaloupe, caramel, creme brûlée, and apricot. It’s definitely a wine that can range in flavors and aromas! The tasting notes can also be very dependent on whether the wine is aged in stainless steel or oak, each process creates a substantially different flavor profile.

Did you know that Chardonnay is also one of the key grapes in making “Champagne Method” Sparkling wines? We’ve listed a few of those too.

There is a wide variety of cheeses listed below so there are many options for you to choose from when doing these pairings at home. Do you have a go-to Chardonnay and cheese pairing? We’d love to hear about it and give it a try if it’s not on our list already.

Happy Face Chardonnay and Feta Cheese Husch Chardonnay and Le Delice de Bourgogne Chappellet Chardonnay and Gabietou La Crema Chardonnay and Marinated Cheese Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay and Le Maréchal Emmi Kendall Jackson Chardonnay and Notre Dame French Brie Gouda Goat Cheese with Beringer Chardonnay and Grenache Noir Steele Chardonnay and Champagne Cheddar Cheese Fuzion Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay and Quesos Deleite Chardon-May, Biltmore Chardonnay and Carolina Moon Chardon-May, Eve Chardonnay and Rocket's Robiola Chardon-May, Woodlands Chardonnay and New Zealand Cheddar Chardon-May, Finca Sophenia and Campo de Montalban Chardon-May, Our Favorite Chardonnay Sparkling Wines and Cheeses As We Begin our California Wine Adventure Chilean Sparkling Wines

We’ve found some of these to be especially good pairings and others to be better separate but it’s never a bad day when you are drinking wine and eating cheese.

Do you usually like “Anything But Chardonnay?” Why not give it another try in order to celebrate Chardonnay Day this year? We’ve got tons of suggestions and with it’s huge range of flavors and aromas there’s bound to be one you will enjoy!
